Is there Inexpensive or no cost health insurance available to Oregon residents?
I live in Oregon and suffered a severe leg injury about 18 months ago. My leg is broke and crushed and even though I have gone to the hospital twice to have it checked, The hospitals won't fix it because I don't have any insurance. I know about the damage because I was lucky enough this summer to find a free clinic that would xray my leg. I really hurt, some times the pain is unbearable. I have no job, no income, and no insurance. and I was told that the state of Oregon doesn't provide insurance for single adults without children. I would be so greatful for any information which could lead me to getting medical attention for my broken leg. I am the widow of a veteran and I am under 50 years old. Please don't answer unless you can provide me with awesome information about getting my leg fixed. For once in my life I'm sorry that I am not a non english speaking foreigner that some medical team would like to help out, as you see advertised on tv..

- If you have no job, no income, and no insurance, how are you on a computer asking this question? That aside, this website: http://www.oregonhelps.org/ is supposed to be able to tell you if there is any plan that can help you. Otherwise, please pay attention to ballots and vote yes for any universal health plan initiatives in Oregon, because that's the only way we'll all be covered.
- no unless you get get on government aid
- As an Oregon resident with no health care I have found that Oregon provides insurance for the uninsurable through a high risk pool unfortunately it costs $280 for female age 26, and the costs go up considerably from there. I do now that it is against the law for a hospital to refuse to care for you based on you not havin insurance. Several times I have had to go to the ER and all times made payment arrangements after the bill came. If you are really concerned you could go to OHSU which is a state funded hospital, they have to take care of you. Depending on how the leg was injured you may be covered by auto insurance or home owners insurance. I really do feel your pain, it is so hard to not have insurance. Good Luck
- Well, I'm sorry that I can't give you really specific info, but as a fellow Oregon resident, I've got some ideas for you. First, have you tried Oregon Health Plan? I could be wrong, but I don't think it's just for people with kids. I think its for anyone who qualifies for low income. Try Googling it. My second idea is to give a call to the Veteran's Administration, or Google it. It's very possible they will assist the widow of a veteran. Also, aren't you getting Social Security benefits as a widow? Maybe you could file for benefits there and get at least a little income going. Lastly, if you live in the Metro (Portland) area, try getting into a Multnomah County clinic. Call ahead first, but I know they provide discounted rates to people with low income. Good luck to you and don't get bitter.
- You can check out the links in the Sources section to the Oregon Health Plan and to Oregon Medicaid. I’ve also included links to a national free clinic directory and Oregon health departments where you can receive discounted or free health care until you can afford health insurance on your own. When you are able to look for personal insurance, check out MostChoice.com. You can research Oregon health plans and speak to state-licensed insurance representatives about the type of plan you’re interested in without any obligation.
